Frequently Asked Questions

What is Financial Wellness?

Financial Wellness is an interactive virtual workshop where you will learn strategies for building a healthier mindset around finances, managing money, setting financial goals, building credit, and more.

We welcome participants who are interested in improving their personal management of their finances, and are residents of Southeast Alaska. These workshops are also open to Sealaska shareholders living outside Southeast Alaska. We especially encourage applications from individuals who are Indigenous, Black, people of color, and/or those who are located in rural Alaska (outside of Juneau, Ketchikan or Sitka). Participants must be committed to being fully present during the workshop.

Who can take the workshop?

The workshop will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. November 13-14 virtually via Zoom. Participants calling in from outside of Alaska should check the time difference and plan accordingly. For future workshops, please continue to keep an eye out for our social media posts and on our website at www.spruceroot.org/financialwellness. Exact workshop times are subject to change.

When and where will the workshop take place?

Participants will need a computer with a reliable internet connection and video/microphone capabilities. We will ask you to log-in on your computer and to have your video turned on throughout the training sessions. You may wish to use a headset with a microphone that connects to your computer if it’s available. You will need to call in from a quiet, distraction-free place from which you can unmute yourself and participate in the training, a notepad and pen, and a commitment to attending and being fully present during ALL of the workshop sessions.

What will I need to participate in the workshop?

This workshop costs $25.00. The fee will be collected after your registration has been completed, and will be payable via Paypal or by check. Any applicant that finds the fee to be a financial burden may request a waiver by emailing grow@spruceroot.org.

How much does the workshop cost?

We may make some recordings available after the session. This workshop takes place several times a year, so if you are unable to attend at this time, keep an eye out for future iterations by following us on Facebook or signing up for email updates.

Will session recordings be available for those who are interested but don’t have the time to participate?
